Travel & Transport
Đọc hành trình, kiểm tra dữ liệu, nghe hướng dẫn trên bản đồ và mô tả thay đổi chính xác bằng tiếng Anh.
Learning route
Bắt đầu · nhìn cả hành trình
Lộ trình: 3 Reading → Grammar Points & Language Lego → Listening maps/plans → Writing Task 1 line/bar → Speaking Parts 1–3.
- Dùng travel by, rely on, reduce journey time, an increase in và from/to/by đúng ý.
Mẫu: I usually travel by bus. The ride takes about twenty minutes, but my whole journey takes roughly thirty-five minutes because I also need to walk and wait.

|---|---|---|
| 1. Xác định ô | Cần danh từ, động từ hay tính từ? Có a/an, giới từ, số ít/số nhiều không? | a ___ route → ô cần tính từ; reduce ___ → thường là danh từ. |
| 2. Tìm cùng ý | So paraphrase, không chỉ từ y hệt. | depend on có thể dẫn bạn tới rely on. |
| “a shared timetable” + gap sau a → shared timetable. |
| “a a timetable” sai vì lặp mạo từ. |
Văn bản mẫu: “The centre keeps a shared timetable near the entrance.” Instruction: Choose NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS from the text. Câu: A ___ is displayed near the entrance.
Ba cách điền: timetable / shared timetable / a shared timetable.
“a shared timetable” vượt 2 từ và tạo “A a …”.

AMereford’s transport team wanted a clearer picture of how a of adults travelled to work. For this fictional classroom study, the team ran three in 2016, 2020 and 2024. Each survey included 500 adults whose was a car, a bus or a bicycle. People who mainly walked or used another mode were outside this . The report therefore described its results as findings about the , not of travel across the whole town.
BParticipants were asked to the mode used for the of their usual journey to work. Someone who walked to a bus stop and then took a bus was a bus user. This mattered because one journey could contain several . The also asked about the main reason for a person’s choice, but the published chart showed only the using each mode. Readers could not use that chart alone to any proportion had changed.
CIn 2016, 58 percent of the respondents mainly , while 24 percent used the bus and 18 percent cycled. The car 50 percent in 2020 and 42 percent in 2024. Over the same period, the bus figure 24 to 32 percent, and the bicycle figure 18 to 26 percent. Thus, there was both bus use and cycling within the selected samples. Car the most common of the three main modes in every survey, even though its became smaller.
DThe team was careful about the language used to describe these changes. The fall in the car share was sixteen , not sixteen percent. It also did not mean that sixteen of the same hundred individuals had . The people answering the three surveys were the same people. A change between separate samples shows a difference in their ; it does not directly each person’s behaviour over time.
EA second section of the report discussed . Several respondents said they could a even when it was not the fastest one on a clear road. For example, a direct bus could avoid the of a connection, while a bicycle journey might have a more for a particular person. These comments helped planners understand what questions to ask next. They were not that one mode was always faster or more reliable for everyone.
FFinally, the report considered how to without ignoring other needs. One suggestion was to the arrival of a with the of a main service. Another was to improve the walking route between the station and the arts centre. Neither suggestion was presented as the of the earlier changes in mode share. Before choosing a project, the team planned to collect more about waiting time, connections and faced by people not in the original sample. The survey was a for better questions, rather than a complete answer to the town’s transport choices.

AWhen Mereford’s discussed , its members began with an question: how could more everyday journeys be made without private cars? Their aim was to and examine , rather than announce that one mode would suit every person. The word sustainable was used to include arrangements that could be , not merely a project that looked attractive on opening day. This required attention to , access, and the behind a decision.
BThe committee’s first proposal was a faster bus route between two busy centres. It promised to for people already living near the proposed stops. However, an showed that some would have to cross a wide road without a to reach those stops. For them, a faster ride did not necessarily mean a more convenient or . The planners therefore began treating access to a service as part of the service itself. A route could not be judged only by the minutes spent .
CA second proposal focused on rather than speed. A small would meet the main bus at a . The timetable was designed to leave enough time for passengers to move between vehicles without an unnecessarily long wait. This involved a : a very short connection could be attractive when everything , but a small delay could cause passengers to miss the next service. A longer gap offered more but increased waiting time. The committee asked for several instead of assuming that the shortest scheduled connection must be best.
DThe same attention to complete journeys affected discussion of cycling. the length of cycle lanes would not, , establish that more useful journeys could be made by bicycle. A short between two existing lanes could matter more to a particular route than a longer elsewhere. at the was another part of the journey that a map of lanes alone could . The committee also noted that residents have different physical needs, responsibilities and distances to travel. Providing a cycling option was therefore presented as an , not a requirement for every resident to .
EReliability emerged as a in the . People said they wanted to the information as well as the vehicles. A timetable that was rarely could make a service difficult to use even when buses were available. Similarly, clear signs at an interchange might help a visitor understand which direction to take without asking someone at every . Such comments did not tell the committee exactly which improvement would change travel behaviour most. They did suggest that small features of a journey deserved attention large .
FThe committee also had to decide how to any trial. Counting passengers would be useful, but a rise in one month might reflect or a rather than a in . It would be important to compare more than one period and ask which groups were or still . Environmental effects would need their own evidence; a change in the number of tickets sold would not, by itself, measure those effects. The committee proposed recording waiting time, missed connections and users’ explanations alongside the passenger totals. It wanted evidence of how an option worked, not just evidence that it existed.
GIn the end, the planning discussion produced no . People’s shaped what they considered convenient, and resources limited what could be offered immediately. Yet the absence of one perfect solution did not make improvement impossible. The committee could test a connected set of smaller changes, publish the results and revise the plan what it learned. Its was that sustainable transport should be judged as a of choices, supported by evidence and .

Before introducing the shuttle, planners should check how long people currently wait and whether they can reach the proposed stops easily. A fast ride may be of limited use if the walking route is difficult. The timetable should also allow a realistic connection with other services. During a short trial, the team could record journey time and missed connections, then ask users about the reasons for their choices. These findings would help the team revise the service. An increase in passengers would be useful information, but it would not by itself measure the environmental effects.
Mẫu nối nhu cầu → dữ liệu → điều kiện → đánh giá; không biến ý định tốt thành kết quả đã chứng minh.
Grammar notes · mở sau khi thử làm
Câu gốc I03-R3-S6: It promised to reduce journey time for people already living near the proposed stops.
Living near … = who were already living near … .
Thay thử: The plan aimed to improve access for people travelling late in the evening.
Câu gốc I03-R3-S8: For them, a faster ride did not necessarily mean a more convenient or usable journey.
So sánh + did not necessarily mean · Chuyến xe nhanh hơn không nhất thiết làm cả hành trình thuận tiện hơn.
Did not + nguyên mẫu mean; not necessarily giữ mức độ, không có nghĩa never.
Thay thử: A shorter route does not necessarily mean a shorter journey time.
Câu gốc I03-R3-S18: An increase in the length of cycle lanes would not, by itself, establish that more useful journeys could be made by bicycle.
An increase in + danh từ; would/could · Tăng tổng chiều dài chưa tự chứng minh mạng lưới hữu ích hơn.
Increase là danh từ có an; in nối với đại lượng tăng. Could be made là bị động: hành trình có thể thực hiện.
Thay thử: An increase in bus services would not by itself prove that waiting times had fallen.
Câu gốc I03-R3-S38: The committee could test a connected set of smaller changes, publish the results and revise the plan in response to what it learned.
Could + ba động từ song song · Ba việc có thể làm: test, publish, revise.
Không lặp to sau could; cả ba động từ giữ nguyên mẫu. In response to + nội dung phản hồi.
Thay thử: Planners could compare the routes, ask users for feedback and adjust the timetable.

02 · Grammar
|---|---|---|
| Phương tiện/thói quen | I usually travel by bus. | By + phương tiện không mạo từ; on foot cho đi bộ. On a bus nói ở/trên một xe, cũng là cấu trúc hợp lệ trong ngữ cảnh khác. |
| Đến mức nào | The car share fell to 42%. | To + mức cuối; không phải lượng giảm. |
| Từ mức đầu tới mức cuối | The bus share rose from 24% to 32%. | From đầu, to cuối; dùng cùng đơn vị và đúng thứ tự năm. |
| Thay đổi bao nhiêu | The bus share rose by eight percentage points. | By + mức chênh; 32−24=8 điểm phần trăm. |
| Chuyển động từ thành danh từ | There was an increase in the bus share. | An increase in + đại lượng; an increase of + lượng tăng. |
| So hai xu hướng | Car use fell, while bus use rose. | While/whereas + mệnh đề đối chiếu; không có nghĩa vì thế. |
| Nêu hai số theo thứ tự | Bus and bicycle shares reached 32% and 26%, respectively. | Respectively nối đúng thứ tự hai nhóm ↔ hai số; không đảo cặp. |
| Kể sự kiện | We missed the connection, so we took a later bus. | Quá khứ đơn theo chuỗi sự kiện; không mặc định luôn phải dùng quá khứ hoàn thành. |
Mẫu phân tích: from, to và by
Dữ liệu giả lập: một hành trình mất 45 phút năm 2018 và 35 phút năm 2024. Viết ba câu cùng mô tả một thay đổi.
- The journey time fell from ___ to ___.
- It fell by ___.
- There was a reduction of ___ in the journey time.
Đáp án & giải thích
1 45 minutes → 35 minutes. 2 ten minutes. 3 ten minutes. “Fell to ten minutes” sai dữ kiện: 10 là mức giảm, không phải mức cuối. “A reduction in ten minutes” không thay được “a reduction of ten minutes” để nêu lượng giảm.
- 58% to 42% is a fall of 16 percentage points.
- 24% to 32% is an increase of 8%.
- 18% to 26% and 24% to 32% have the same percentage-point increase.
- A 16-percentage-point decline from 58% means the final value is 16%.
Đáp án & giải thích
1 đúng. 2 sửa thành an increase of 8 percentage points. Mức tăng tương đối là 8/24 ≈ 33.3%, không phải 8%; ở đây chỉ cần điểm phần trăm. 3 đúng: cả hai +8 điểm phần trăm, dù tỷ lệ tăng tương đối khác. 4 sai: final value = 58−16 = 42%.
- In 2016, car users ___ (account for) 58% of the sample.
- The bus figure ___ (rise) to 32% in 2024.
- There was an ___ (increase) in cycling.
- The two categories ___ (grow) by the same number of percentage points.
- At present, I usually ___ (travel) by bus, but last weekend I ___ (cycle).
- The route ___ (take) longer on foot, so Asha leaves early.
Đáp án & giải thích
- accounted for · quá khứ theo 2016; account for + tỷ lệ.
- rose · rise → rose bất quy tắc.
- increase · danh từ sau an, không increased.
- grew · grow → grew; the two categories số nhiều nhưng quá khứ cùng dạng.
- travel; cycled · tách thói quen hiện tại và sự kiện last weekend.
- takes · chủ ngữ the route số ít, mô tả đặc điểm hiện nay.
Sửa lỗi dữ liệu và cấu trúc
Mỗi câu có một lỗi trọng tâm. Sửa sao cho đúng dữ liệu Unit.
- The proportion of car users fell at 42% in 2024.
- Bus use rose from 32% to 24% between 2016 and 2024.
- There was a increase in the bicycle share.
- The bus and bicycle figures were 26% and 32% in 2024, respectively.
- I usually travel by feet to the station.
- The bicycle share increased because the council built better lanes.
- Although the direct bus went farther, but the journey was shorter.
- The number of respondents using cars was 42% in 2024.
Đáp án & giải thích
- … fell to 42%. To nêu điểm đến, không at.
- … rose from 24% to 32%. Giữ thứ tự năm.
- … an increase … . An trước nguyên âm ở increase.
- … were 32% and 26%, respectively. Bus trước →32; bicycle sau →26.
- … travel on foot / walk … . Dùng cụm chuẩn on foot, không by feet.
- The bicycle share increased from 18% to 26%.
- Although …, the journey was shorter. Bỏ but.
- The proportion/percentage of respondents using cars was 42% in 2024.
Dùng while/whereas, although, because hoặc hai câu riêng. Chỉ dùng because khi dữ liệu/tình huống thật sự nêu lý do.
- Car use declined. Bus use increased.
- The direct route was longer. Asha did not need to change buses, so the whole journey was shorter.
- The chart shows an increase in cycling. The chart does not explain its cause.
- We left earlier. We wanted to allow for a delay.
Đáp án & giải thích
- Car use declined, while bus use increased. Đối chiếu, không nguyên nhân.
- Although the direct route was longer, the whole journey was shorter because Asha did not need to change buses. Bài đọc có lý do này.
- The chart shows an increase in cycling, but it does not explain the cause. Hoặc Although … .
- We left earlier because we wanted to allow for a delay. Lý do được tình huống nêu.

| Mảnh/khung | Chức năng | Ghép đúng | Giới hạn hoặc lỗi |
|---|---|---|---|
| travel by [bus/train/car/bicycle] | nêu phương tiện | I usually travel by bus. | By + tên phương tiện không mạo từ trong khung này; đi bộ = on foot. |
| rely on [N / V-ing] | nêu điều có thể trông cậy | I rely on a direct service. | Sai: rely of the service → on. |
| reduce [journey time / waiting time] | nêu mục tiêu giảm | A better connection could reduce waiting time. | Sai: reduce of journey time → bỏ of; could không khẳng định đã xảy ra. |
| allow for [a delay / extra walking time] | dự trù | We allow for a short delay. | Allow for + danh từ; allow someone to do là cấu trúc khác. |
| The figure for [group] [rose/fell] from [start] to [end]. | mô tả thay đổi | The figure for bus users rose from 24% to 32%. |
| [S] rose/fell by [amount + unit]. | nêu chênh lệch | The car share fell by sixteen percentage points. | By là mức đổi; to là mức cuối. |
| There was an increase/decrease in [measure]. | dùng danh từ xu hướng | There was an increase in the bicycle share. | Sai: There was an increased in … → increase là danh từ. |
| [Group] accounted for [percentage] of [sample]. | nêu tỷ trọng | Car users accounted for 42% of the sample in 2024. | Account for nhận phần trăm trực tiếp; giữ of + nhóm tổng. |
| [Clause], while/whereas [clause]. | so sánh hai xu hướng | Car use fell, whereas bus use rose. |
| [A] remained [the largest / the shortest]. | nêu thứ hạng giữ nguyên | Car remained the largest category. |
| [A] and [B] were [x] and [y], respectively. | ghép số theo thứ tự | Bus and bicycle shares were 32% and 26%, respectively. |

| [Place] is on [side] of [path]. | xác định vị trí trên mặt bằng | The building is on the north side of the path. |
| One reason I chose [option] was that [clause]. | kể lựa chọn cá nhân | One reason I chose the bus was that I could avoid changing vehicles. |
Chọn mảnh đúng loại ô
Điền một lựa chọn rồi giải thích vì sao lựa chọn còn lại sai hoặc đổi nghĩa.
- The bus share [rose / a rise] from 24% to 32%.
- There was [an increase / increased] in cycling.
- Car [remained / increased] the largest category in every survey.
- The bicycle share rose [to / by] eight percentage points.
- I rely [on / of] the timetable to plan my journey.
- Go [past / pass] the fountain, then turn left.
Ghép đúng số: kiểm tra bằng hai đường
Viết hai câu cho mỗi thay đổi: một câu from/to, một câu by hoặc danh từ. Dữ liệu mới để luyện, hoàn toàn giả lập: thời gian chờ 12→8 phút; tỷ lệ đi bus 30→35%; khoảng cách một tuyến 6→9 km.
Không trộn minutes, percentage points và kilometres.
Đáp án & giải thích
- Waiting time fell from 12 to 8 minutes. It fell by four minutes.
- The bus share rose from 30% to 35%. There was an increase of five percentage points.
- The route length increased from six to nine kilometres. It rose by three kilometres.
Mẫu trải nghiệm: I usually travel by bicycle to a nearby class. One reason I chose this option was that I could avoid waiting for a bus. I still allow for extra time in bad weather. Although the route is short, I check the whole journey, including bicycle parking at the destination.
Mẫu dữ liệu: In a fictional sample, the bus share rose from 30% to 35%. This was an increase of five percentage points. Car use declined over the same period, while cycling remained unchanged. The data do not show why the patterns changed.
03 · Maps & plans
Bài A · Riverside Travel Hub
Mara, visitor assistant: Hello, and welcome to Mereford Riverside Travel Hub. Before you set off, I will explain where to find six useful services. Please look at the plan. North is at the top. The main entrance is at the bottom, and a straight path leads north from it to the fountain in the middle. There are two paths running east and west: one goes through the fountain area, and the other runs in front of the three buildings at the northern end.
First, cycle hire. Imagine you are standing just inside the main entrance and looking north. The cycle hire centre is in the large building on your right, in the south-east corner of the hub. Do not confuse it with the small kiosk immediately beside the main path. The cycle hire building is farther to the right, near the outer boundary. You can collect a helmet there as well as a bicycle.
Next, the luggage store. Follow the main path towards the fountain. When you reach the fountain, turn left along the westward path. The luggage store is the building on the north side of that path. It is quite close to the fountain, not one of the three buildings at the very top of the plan. Staff can hold bags there while you explore the riverside on foot.
For ticket collection, return to the fountain and continue north along the main path. At the northern corridor, you will see three buildings in a row. Ticket collection is in the middle one, directly ahead of you. The building to its right is used by staff, so visitors should not go there to collect tickets.
If you need somewhere quiet to wait, the quiet waiting room is next door to ticket collection, on its left as you look north. In other words, it is the building in the north-west corner. It has seating and a small display showing the next departures. Please keep telephone calls outside this room.
The riverside shuttle leaves from a covered stop on the other side of the hub. From the fountain, take the path to the east. The shuttle stop is on the north side of this eastern path, opposite the luggage store across the central area. It is not the large building in the south-east corner, where the bicycles are kept. The shuttle is useful if you do not want to walk the entire riverside route.
Finally, the information desk has moved. It is no longer inside ticket collection. You will now find it in the small kiosk just inside the main entrance, immediately to the right of the main path when you face north. It is between the path and the larger cycle hire building. A member of our team can help you plan a journey or check a connection there. Thank you, and enjoy your visit.
Bài B · Station Forecourt
Leon, station assistant: Here are a few directions for people leaving Mereford Station. Look at the forecourt plan. The station exit is on the right-hand side. As you leave it, you face west, towards the small square at the far end of the central path. North is still at the top of your plan.
The information point is the first place you may need. It is on your right before you reach the crossroads. That means it is on the north side of the path, between the station and the crossroads. It is not the building directly opposite on the south side.
For the toilets, continue to the crossroads and turn left. Follow that path all the way to its southern end. The toilets are the building at the end, rather than the building beside the station.
If you need the bus stop, start again from the station exit and walk straight towards the small square. Do not turn at the crossroads. When you reach the square, the bus stop is on its north side. There is another shelter to the south of the square, but that one is not used for buses.
The pedestrian bridge is reached by a different route. Return to the crossroads, then take the path north. The bridge entrance is at the very end of that path. You cannot reach it by going south towards the toilets. The bridge is for people on foot, so anyone with a bicycle should get off and walk across.

| G | Tòa nhà lớn góc đông nam, xa hơn về bên phải so với kiosk H. |
| H | Kiosk nhỏ sát bên phải đường chính, gần lối vào; nằm giữa đường chính và G. |
| Fountain | Mốc cố định ở giữa plan, tại giao đường chính và đường ngang. |
Listening A · Questions 1–6
Label the plan. Write the correct letter, A–H, next to Questions 1–6. Use each letter once only. Two letters will not be used.
- Cycle hire centre ___
- Luggage store ___
- Ticket collection ___
- Quiet waiting room ___
- Riverside shuttle stop ___
- Information desk ___
Đáp án & giải thích
- G · Large building on right in south-east corner; không phải small kiosk H.
- D · From fountain, turn left/west; building on north side of that westward path.
- B · Middle building in northern row, directly ahead from main path.
- A · Left of ticket collection khi nhìn north; northwest corner.
- E · From fountain east; stop north of eastern path, đối diện D qua khu trung tâm. Không phải G ở southeast.
- H · Small kiosk just inside entrance, immediately right of path, giữa path và G. Thông tin “no longer inside ticket collection” loại B.
Map B · Mereford Station Forecourt
|---|---|
| A | Cuối nhánh bắc từ crossroads. |
Listening B · Questions 7–10, chuyển giao
Label the plan. Write the correct letter, A–F, next to Questions 7–10. Use each letter once only. Two letters will not be used. Tự đánh dấu điểm bắt đầu trước khi nghe.
- Information point ___
- Toilets ___
- Bus stop ___
- Pedestrian bridge entrance ___
Đáp án & giải thích
- B · Ra ga hướng west: right là north; trước crossroads, giữa station và crossroads. C ở south được bác bỏ.
- D · Tại crossroads, turn left khi đang west = south; đi tới cuối nhánh.
- E · Start again at station; đi thẳng qua crossroads tới square; bus stop ở north side, không phải shelter F phía south.
- A · Return to crossroads, đi north đến cuối đường.
Mẫu: entrance facing north → fountain → left/west → north side of west path. Không chỉ ghi “left” vì chưa biết đang nhìn hướng nào.
Đáp án & giải thích
A2: main entrance facing north → fountain → turn left along westward path → building north of path = D. B8: station exit facing west → crossroads → turn left/south → southern end = D. Cùng chữ D nhưng hai bản đồ khác nhau; không có nghĩa cùng địa điểm.
Nếu đáp án sai, xác định lỗi thuộc hướng ban đầu, điểm rẽ, vị trí cạnh đường hay chưa xử lý lời sửa “no longer/now”.
Leave the station and walk west along the central path. Go straight past the crossroads until you reach the small square. Location F is on the south side of the square. As you face west, it is on your left.
Bạn không được tự thêm lý do “because of new roads” hay đánh giá “a better policy” khi biểu đồ không cung cấp chúng.
The line graph shows the percentages of surveyed commuters whose main mode of travel to work was a car, a bus or a bicycle in Mereford in 2016, 2020 and 2024. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words.
- The car share was lower in 2024 than in 2016.
- People switched to buses because tickets became cheaper.
- The three categories sum to 100% at every recorded date.
- The same individuals changed their mode during the study.

Đối tượng: surveyed commuters; phạm vi: car/bus/bicycle users only, 500 ở mỗi đợt; năm 2016/2020/2024; đơn vị%; car giảm, bus/bicycle tăng; car lớn nhất cả ba mốc.
Bậc 1 A · ý tiếng Việt → câu dữ liệu
- In 2016, the proportion of surveyed commuters using a car was 58%.
- It fell to 42% in 2024. It quy chiếu proportion ở câu trước.
- The bus share rose from 24% to 32%.
- This was an increase of eight percentage points. This chỉ thay đổi 24→32.
- The bicycle share increased, while the car share declined.
- Car remained the largest category in all three surveys. “Largest” chỉ phạm vi ba nhóm mẫu.
Bậc 1 B · thay số có kiểm tra
Không học thuộc câu với số 58. Cho dữ liệu luyện giả lập mới: nhóm A 30%→40%, nhóm B 50%→45%, nhóm C 20%→15%.
- A rose from 30% to 40%, an increase of ten percentage points.
- B fell from 50% to 45%, a decline of five percentage points.
- C decreased from 20% to 15%, a fall of five percentage points.
Có thể tách mỗi mẫu thành hai câu. Không biến fall of five percentage points thành final value five percent. B vẫn lớn nhất ở cuối 45%, dù A tăng mạnh hơn về điểm phần trăm.
Bậc 2 A · nối câu để tạo so sánh
Dùng dữ liệu Mereford. Ghép từng cặp bằng while/whereas, respectively hoặc cấu trúc phù hợp. Không cần cả ba trong một câu.
- Car use fell from 58% to 42%. Bus use rose from 24% to 32%.
- Bus use was 32% in 2024. Bicycle use was 26% in 2024.
- The bus share increased by 8 percentage points. The bicycle share increased by 8 percentage points.
- The gap between car and bus shares was 34 percentage points in 2016. The gap was 10 points in 2024.
Đáp án & giải thích
- Car use fell from 58% to 42%, while bus use rose from 24% to 32%.
- In 2024, bus and bicycle shares were 32% and 26%, respectively.
- Both bus and bicycle shares increased by eight percentage points.
- The gap between car and bus shares narrowed from 34 to 10 percentage points. Narrowed diễn tả gap nhỏ đi, không phải cả hai tỷ lệ đều giảm.
Bậc 2 B · tránh nối sai quan hệ
Sửa ba câu dưới đây, giữ nội dung được chart hỗ trợ.
- The car share fell, so bus travel became cheaper.
- Car remained most popular because everyone preferred it.
- Bus use increased, whereas bicycle use also increased.
Đáp án & giải thích
- The car share fell, while the bus share rose. Bỏ cause giá vé không có.
- Car remained the largest of the three categories in each survey. Không nói everyone vì không phải 100%.
- Both bus and bicycle shares increased. Whereas thường báo đối lập; hai xu hướng giống nhau phù hợp both/and. Nếu muốn dùng whereas, phải đối chiếu với car giảm.
Bậc 3 A · chọn overview rồi giải thích
Chọn overview tốt nhất trong bốn lựa chọn. Đừng chọn chỉ vì câu dài hơn.
- A. In 2016 car was 58%, bus 24% and bicycle 18%.
- B. Overall, the car share declined, while bus and bicycle use increased; car nevertheless remained the largest of the three categories.
- C. Overall, the new cycle lanes caused everyone to stop driving.
- D. Overall, all transport modes became more popular.
Đáp án & giải thích
B: nêu hướng thay đổi và thứ hạng quan trọng. A chỉ một mốc số, thiếu bức tranh toàn kỳ.
Overall, cars accounted for a decreasing share of the sample, whereas the proportions using buses and bicycles grew. Despite its decline, car travel remained the leading category at every recorded date.
The car share began at 58% in 2016, compared with 24% for buses. By 2020, the two figures were 50% and 28%, respectively. They then moved in opposite directions again, reaching 42% for cars and 32% for buses in 2024. Consequently, the gap between these two categories narrowed from 34 to 10 percentage points over the period, although cars still accounted for a larger share at the final date.
Có thể dùng “The gap therefore narrowed…” hoặc câu trung tính “The gap narrowed…” nếu muốn tránh suy diễn.
The line graph compares the main commuting modes reported by three separate samples of 500 adults in Mereford in 2016, 2020 and 2024. The respondents used cars, buses or bicycles for the longest part of their journeys to work.
Overall, the car share declined, whereas the proportions travelling by bus and bicycle increased. Despite this fall, cars remained the largest of the three categories at every recorded date.
In 2016, car users accounted for 58% of the sample, compared with 24% for bus users. The car figure then fell to 50% in 2020 and 42% in 2024, a total decrease of 16 percentage points. In contrast, the bus share rose to 28% and then 32%. The gap between these categories consequently narrowed from 34 to 10 percentage points.
Cycling followed the same upward pattern as bus use. Its share increased from 18% in 2016 to 22% in 2020 and 26% in 2024. Both categories therefore gained eight percentage points over the full period. Together, buses and bicycles accounted for 58% of the final sample, compared with 42% for cars.
| Phần | Cách làm trong mẫu | Vì sao hữu ích |
|---|---|---|
| Introduction | Nêu main modes, sample 500 và ba mốc; không đổi thành all residents. | Đúng đối tượng và phạm vi. |
| Overview | Car giảm; hai loại còn lại tăng; car vẫn lớn nhất. | Chọn bức tranh tổng thể. |
| Details 1 | Nhóm car/bus để so xu hướng ngược và gap 34→10 điểm phần trăm. | So sánh có ý nghĩa thay vì liệt kê. |
“The graph shows how all people in Mereford travelled. Car use rose from 58% to 42%, which is a fall of 16%. Buses were the biggest group in 2024. Bicycle use grew because new lanes were built. This proves that the same people gave up their cars.”
Đáp án & giải thích
Lỗi 1: all people → surveyed car/bus/bicycle commuters.
Bản sửa: The graph shows the main commuting modes in three separate samples of Mereford adults. The car share fell from 58% to 42%, a decline of 16 percentage points, but it remained the largest category in 2024. Bicycle use increased over the period. The chart does not establish the causes of these changes or track the decisions of the same individuals.
| Coherence & cohesion | Nhóm xu hướng/số; đoạn có trục rõ; respectively/while dùng đúng quan hệ.
| Grammatical range & accuracy | Thì quá khứ theo mốc; from/to/by; chủ ngữ–động từ; câu đơn/phức rõ. |
Bậc 5 B · sửa có lý do
Mới: “The bus share rose to 32% in 2024.” Lý do: thêm đại lượng share và dùng to cho mức cuối. Cũ: “All modes changed.” Mới: “The car share fell, while bus and bicycle shares rose.” Lý do: overview nêu hướng thay đổi cụ thể.
Chuyển giao · grouped bar chart
The bar chart shows the average one-way journey time to Westhaven College for adult learners using a bus, a car or a bicycle in 2018 and 2024. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words.
The bar chart compares the average time taken for a one-way journey to Westhaven College by adult learners using three modes of transport in 2018 and 2024. The figures are given in minutes.
Overall, journey times fell for bus and bicycle users but rose slightly for those travelling by car. Cycling remained the quickest of the three options, while the mode with the longest average journey changed from bus to car.
In 2018, bus journeys took 42 minutes on average, compared with 36 minutes by car and 28 minutes by bicycle. By 2024, the bus figure had fallen to 32 minutes, representing the largest reduction, at ten minutes. The bicycle journey also became shorter, although its decline was much smaller, from 28 to 26 minutes.
In contrast, the average car journey increased by two minutes to 38 minutes in 2024. It was therefore six minutes longer than the bus journey and twelve minutes longer than the bicycle journey at the final date. The gap between bus and bicycle times narrowed from fourteen to six minutes over the period.
Question: “How do you usually travel to work or study?” Đọc hai mẫu phù hợp hai hoàn cảnh; đánh dấu phương tiện, lý do và chi tiết cụ thể.
“I usually travel by bus. There’s a direct service near my home, so I don’t need to change vehicles. I still leave a little early because the traffic can be unpredictable.”
“I normally walk because my class is quite close. It takes about fifteen minutes, and I don’t have to wait for a connection. If I need to carry something heavy, I choose another option.”
Grammar: usually/normally + present; because/so cho quan hệ ý; if cho điều kiện.
Part 1 · có gợi ý rồi tự trả lời
Câu 1–3 dùng từ khóa nếu cần. Câu 4–6 tự chọn ý, không nhìn câu trả lời mẫu trước.
- What kind of transport do you use most often? Gợi ý: travel by / rely on / direct route.
- Is there anything you dislike about your usual journey? Gợi ý: waiting time / crowded / unpredictable.
- Do you prefer travelling alone or with other people? Gợi ý: it depends / short journey / unfamiliar place.
- Has the way you travel changed since you were younger?
- Do you like planning a journey in advance?
- Would you like to try a different way of travelling?
Đáp án & giải thích
1: I use the bus most often because there is a direct route to my class. I sometimes walk for shorter journeys.
2: The part I dislike most is waiting without knowing when the next bus will arrive. The ride itself is usually fine.
3: It depends on the journey. I’m happy to travel alone on a familiar route, but I enjoy having company when I visit a new place.
4: Yes. When I was younger, I relied on other people to take me places. Now I plan my own journeys and use public transport more often.
5: Usually, yes. I check the main route and keep an alternative in mind, although I don’t plan every minute.
6: I’d like to try taking a train for a longer trip. I haven’t done that recently, and I would enjoy seeing the journey from a different perspective.
Chọn câu bạn vừa trả lời, rồi tự hỏi Why? hoặc Can you give an example?
Ban đầu: “I like planning in advance.” Bổ sung: “Last month, I checked where to change buses before leaving. That helped me find the right stop without rushing.” Chi tiết cụ thể giải thích ích lợi của planning. “Because planning is good” chỉ lặp đánh giá chung.
Part 2 · Describe a journey that you remember well.
You should say:
- where you went
- who you travelled with
- how you travelled
and explain why you remember this journey.
Khung tự chọn: Before we left… / At first… / Then… / Although… / Looking back,… . Chỉ dùng quá khứ hoàn thành nếu cần làm rõ một sự việc đã xảy ra trước mốc quá khứ khác.
Đáp án & giải thích
I’d like to describe a journey I made with a friend to a small riverside exhibition. It was in a nearby town, and we decided to travel by bus because neither of us wanted to think about parking. We checked the timetable the evening before and planned to walk from the final stop.
The first part went smoothly, but when we arrived, the usual path beside the river was closed for maintenance. At first, we thought we would have to take another bus. Then we looked at the local map and noticed a pedestrian bridge a little farther north. We could cross there and approach the exhibition from the other side.
The alternative route took longer, so we had to adjust our plan. We decided to miss a short introductory talk rather than rush the walk. On the way, we found a quiet square and stopped for a few minutes. My friend took some photographs, and I enjoyed seeing a part of the town that we had not expected to visit.
I remember the journey because it changed the way I think about planning. I still check the main route, but I also try to allow for a delay and keep another option in mind. The trip did not follow our original timetable exactly, yet it was enjoyable. Having a simple backup plan helped us make a sensible decision instead of becoming worried about every lost minute.
Chức năng: đoạn 1 bối cảnh/phương tiện; đoạn 2 vấn đề và lựa chọn; đoạn 3 điều chỉnh và chi tiết; đoạn 4 lý do nhớ và thói quen hiện nay. Ngôn ngữ dùng lại: travel by bus, timetable, pedestrian bridge, alternative route, allow for a delay.
Điểm ngữ pháp: went/arrived/looked kể diễn biến; had not expected chỉ điều chưa dự tính trước chuyến; I still check là thói quen hiện tại.
- A. We found an unexpected route and learned to leave more time.
- B. The friend’s full home address and private phone number.
- C. We stopped in a quiet square and changed our original schedule.
- D. A long list of every meal we ate in the previous month.
Đáp án & giải thích
A và C phục vụ câu chuyện và lý do nhớ.
- Did the journey take longer than you expected?
- Would you make the same journey again?
Đáp án & giải thích
1 Yes, because we used a different walking route after finding the usual path closed. We arrived later, but we still had enough time to enjoy the exhibition. 2 I would. I’d check whether the path was open and leave a little more time, but I’d be happy to take the bus again.
Dùng may/can/could khi nói khả năng. Nếu chưa có số liệu, không tự tạo “90% of people agree”.
Question: “Should transport planners focus mainly on reducing journey time?”
“Journey time matters, but I don’t think it should be the only priority. A service may be fast once passengers are on board, yet difficult to reach or unreliable at busy times. For example, a shorter bus ride would be of limited use to someone who has to wait a long time for a connection. Planners should therefore consider the whole journey, including access and predictability, while still trying to avoid unnecessary delays.”
Thử 40–60 giây mỗi câu, rồi trả lời một Why? hoặc How? tiếp nối.
- Why do people choose different modes for the same journey? Gợi ý: distance / responsibilities / reliability / cost.
- How can public transport be made easier to use? Gợi ý: clear information / connections / access to stops.
- Would free fares solve every public transport problem?
- Is it fair to expect everyone to use the same type of transport?
- What information should planners collect before changing a service?
- How can small changes sometimes improve a journey?
Đáp án & giải thích
1 · mẫu: People may have different priorities even when they travel between the same places. One person may value a predictable arrival time, while another needs to carry equipment or travel with someone else. Cost can matter too, but it is rarely the only consideration. I would therefore be cautious about assuming that a route which suits one commuter will suit everyone.
2 · mẫu: Clear information and useful connections could make a service easier to use. A visitor needs to know where to board and which direction to take, while a regular passenger may be more concerned about waiting time. Improving the walking route to a stop could also help. The best first step would depend on which difficulty users actually report.
3 · mẫu: Lower fares could help people for whom cost is a barrier, but free travel would not solve every problem. If the service does not reach the places people need, or if connections are unreliable, some passengers may still find it difficult to use. A fare change should therefore be considered alongside the quality and coverage of the service.
4 · hướng phát triển: different physical needs, travel distances, caring responsibilities; provide options rather than universal requirement. 5: waiting times, missed connections, user reasons and views of people currently excluded; no cause inferred from one count. 6: clearer signs, coordinated departure or missing walking link; test whether improvement works in that context.
“The bus share rose / from twenty-four percent / to thirty-two percent.”
“Leave the station facing WEST, / then turn RIGHT / at the crossroads.”
Ở câu dữ liệu, from/to là ranh giới mốc; ở câu chỉ đường, west/right là thông tin quyết định hướng.
| Sửa rely on / travel by / on foot; dùng lại trong câu khác. |
Thử thách độc lập · đổi chủ đề nhỏ, giữ kỹ năng
Không mở mẫu. Part 1: What do you do while travelling? Part 2: Describe a journey you would like to make in the future. Part 3: Why can a convenient option for one person be inconvenient for another?
Dùng would like to / would / hope to khi phù hợp.
| Hiểu phạm vi dữ liệu | Phân biệt sample với town population; không biến thay đổi giữa mẫu thành thay đổi của cùng cá nhân. |
| Dùng from/to/by và đơn vị | Mức đầu, mức cuối, lượng đổi đều kiểm được bằng phép tính. |
| Viết Task1 có overview | Tóm xu hướng/thứ hạng, nhóm chi tiết, không thêm cause. |
| Nói và làm lại | Có một câu cụ thể rõ hơn sau lượt phản hồi. |
