Work & Career
- Đọc thông tin cụ thể với TRUE / FALSE / NOT GIVEN; phân biệt quan điểm tác giả với YES / NO / NOT GIVEN.
- Dùng đúng gain experience, meet a deadline, develop a skill và work-life balance trong bối cảnh nghề nghiệp.
Mẫu: I organised a study meeting. I divided the work into three parts and checked that everyone knew their responsibility. This helped me develop my planning skills.
01 · Reading
Reading ladder · chứng minh trước khi chọn
TRUE / FALSE / NOT GIVEN kiểm tra thông tin trong văn bản. YES / NO / NOT GIVEN kiểm tra quan điểm hoặc khẳng định của tác giả. Đọc đúng yêu cầu rồi dùng đúng bộ nhãn; không trả lời bằng kiến thức đời sống.
| Nhãn | Bạn phải chứng minh điều gì? | Lỗi thường gặp |
|---|---|---|
| FALSE / NO | Có bằng chứng cho ý ngược hoặc chi tiết mâu thuẫn. | Thấy khác từ nên cho là sai. |
| NOT GIVEN | Văn bản không đủ để xác nhận hoặc bác bỏ toàn bộ ý đang được hỏi. | Biến “có thể đúng ngoài đời” thành TRUE. |
Quy trình 4 bước: (1) gạch đối tượng, thời gian, mức độ; (2) tìm đoạn chứa cùng ý; (3) so quan hệ ý; (4) chỉ quyết định sau khi kiểm tra cả câu. Các từ all, only, always, most, before và after có thể thay đổi nghĩa, nhưng không tự động báo đáp án sai.
Mẫu phân tích: “không nói” khác “nói ngược”
Chỉ dùng câu tự viết sau: “The centre runs two evening workshops each month. Both are open to people who are already employed.”
- The centre offers workshops every evening.
- People with jobs can attend the workshops.
- Most participants have university degrees.
Đáp án & giải thích
- FALSE: “two … each month” mâu thuẫn với “every evening”.
- TRUE: “already employed” được diễn đạt lại thành “with jobs”.

- A. A new employee learns that good work includes communication, checking and sensible limits.
- B. A designer proves that college courses are unnecessary.
- C. A manager decides to replace all new staff with experienced workers.
TRUE / FALSE / NOT GIVEN · có dẫn đường
Do the following statements agree with the information in Reading 1? Write TRUE, FALSE or NOT GIVEN.
- Nila had experience of using design software before she joined Harbour Print.
- Tomas was Nila’s manager.
- Nila recorded questions about instructions that she did not understand.
- The customer spotted a mistake in Nila’s draft.
- Nila submitted the garden notice after the agreed deadline.
- Nila’s manager helped her decide which tasks to do first.
- Nila is paid more than the other new employees.
- Nila has already decided which career she will follow for the rest of her working life.
Đáp án & giải thích
- TRUE · A: “had used design software at college” xảy ra trước công việc.
- FALSE · B: Tomas “was not her manager”. Mentor không đồng nghĩa manager.
- TRUE · B: “wrote down unclear instructions” để hỏi lại.
- TRUE · C: “The customer spotted the mistake” nêu rõ khách hàng phát hiện lỗi trong bản nháp.
- FALSE · C: “still managed to meet the deadline” nghĩa là vẫn đúng hạn.
- TRUE · D: “helped her set priorities” = giúp chọn việc cần làm trước.
- NOT GIVEN · Không có số lương hoặc so sánh lương của nhân viên.
- FALSE · E: “has not chosen a long-term career yet” đối lập với đã quyết định.
Paraphrase có giới hạn
Ghép ý 1–5 với cách diễn đạt A–E.
- 1. meet the deadline
- 2. set priorities
- 3. receive feedback
- 4. reliable
- 5. gain experience
A. someone others can depend on · B. decide what needs attention first · C. learn through doing real tasks · D. finish by the agreed time · E. hear comments that help you improve
Đáp án & giải thích
1–D; 2–B; 3–E; 4–A; 5–C. “Finish by the agreed time” giữ đúng ý deadline; “finish earlier than everyone else” không tương đương vì thêm so sánh.
Gợi ý nhẹ: I forgot to… / After receiving feedback,… / I now…
Đáp án & giải thích
I forgot to check the time before I shared the meeting schedule. After receiving feedback, I corrected the message and contacted the group. I now check important details before sending a final version. This helps me become a more reliable team member.
“I received a feedback” cần sửa thành “I received feedback”.

The report did not claim that every organisation should copy the same arrangement. Its more limited conclusion was that employees need a clear agreement about , responsibilities and .

- Technicians who changed shifts had to work fewer hours per week.
- The survey measured how employees’ families felt about the trial.
- More projects were completed on time in the trial’s first six weeks than in the previous six weeks.
- All the projects used in the comparison were identical in size.
- The recent recruits were less well paid than the experienced planners.

- FALSE · D: projects varied in size. “All the same size” mâu thuẫn với sự khác nhau đó.
- NOT GIVEN · B says salary unchanged during trial, not the relative salaries of new and experienced staff.
- TRUE · E: paired with a mentor for one shared office day.

Members could work online, provided that they attend a short weekly check-in. Each person would be responsible for one clear outcome. We could keep a shared calendar up to date so that everyone knows the deadline. A new member could work with a partner to gain experience. Career learning: a shared, sustainable responsibility
AThe idea that career learning should end when finishes is difficult to defend. A may , but it cannot describe every task a person will face of work. This does not mean that workers must . It means that they need opportunities to in their knowledge, practise a and their practice has helped. , continuing to learn should be a normal part of a career, although the responsibility for making it possible should be .
BFirst, experience and learning are not . A person can repeat the same task for years without how well it is done. Repetition may , but it does not automatically develop . To that is , workers need feedback and some a different approach. Consider a fictional supervisor who is good at but often leaves colleagues unsure about their . Another year of giving the same unclear instructions is solve the problem. Observing a colleague, practising a short and asking for comments would be a more form of development.
CSecond, useful learning is often smaller and than a formal course. A repair worker who learns to explain a technical fault in has that a customer may value. A shop assistant who starts checking whether a customer has understood an explanation is also learning, even if no certificate records the change. Formal courses certainly have a place, especially when a role requires specialised knowledge or a . However, it would be a mistake to treat the number of certificates as a complete measure of . The important question is what someone can now do more , not merely how many hours they spent in a classroom.
DWho should provide the time and resources for this learning? Employees have a reason to because the benefits may their current job. Yet placing the on individuals would ignore the conditions in which they work. A person on an may find it difficult to attend an evening course, while a worker with may have little spare time at all. An employer who asks staff to learn a new process should normally provide time to practise it during paid working hours. Expecting staff to complete late at night can the that the organisation says it supports.
EThere is also a risk in offering everyone the same . Two employees with the same job title may need different kinds of support. One may need ; the other may need a who can help them communicate a decision. Giving workers some choice can make learning more relevant, the choices remain connected to real needs. Choice alone is not enough, however. A menu of online courses is if staff never have time to use it or cannot see how it relates to their work.
FNone of this means that every learning activity will produce an . Some benefits, such as greater confidence in asking a difficult question, are hard to measure and may appear slowly. Organisations should therefore be cautious about judging a programme only by . Equally, learners should be able to explain what they have practised and identify a change they want to test next. This combines patience with : it allows without assuming that proves improvement.
GFinally, continuing career learning should support a person’s rather than create about being . People need periods in which they can use what they already know, not only pressure to acquire something new. The strongest approach is therefore a : identify a useful goal, practise with support, apply the skill and the result. A career can contain many such cycles, shaped by changing roles and . Learning throughout working life is worthwhile when it helps people do meaningful work and make , rather than simply remain busy.
Dấu hiệu: “In my view”; “it would be a mistake”; “should normally”; “worthwhile when”. Tóm tắt: The writer supports continuing career learning when it is purposeful, supported and sustainable, with responsibility shared by workers and employers.
“Everyone must collect more certificates” không phải lập trường của bài; đoạn A và C bác bỏ việc đồng nhất học tập với đếm chứng chỉ.
YES / NO / NOT GIVEN · tự tìm bằng chứng
Do the following statements agree with the views of the writer in Reading 3? Write YES, NO or NOT GIVEN.
- Workers should have opportunities to continue learning after formal education.
- Doing a task repeatedly always improves a worker’s judgement.
- Learning that is not recorded by a certificate can still be valuable.
- Online courses are generally more effective than face-to-face courses.
- Individuals should carry all the responsibility for career learning.
- Training required by an employer should normally include practice time within paid hours.
- Employees with the same job title should always receive identical development plans.
- The value of learning should be judged only by its immediate effect on output.
- Governments should pay the full cost of every worker’s professional training.
- Career learning is worthwhile when it supports meaningful work and informed decisions.
Đáp án & giải thích
- YES · A directly supports ongoing learning and shared responsibility.
- NO · B: repetition may build speed but does not automatically develop judgement. “Always” contradicts that limit.
- YES · C: the shop assistant learns even without a certificate recording it.
- NOT GIVEN · E mentions online courses but does not compare their effectiveness with face-to-face courses.
- NO · D rejects placing the entire burden on individuals.
- YES · D: employer “should normally provide time … during paid working hours”. Normally preserves the writer’s qualification.
- NO · E: same title can mean different support needs.
- NO · F: be cautious about judging only short-term output; some benefits appear slowly.
- NOT GIVEN · No claim about governments paying full training costs. Shared responsibility is discussed for employees/employers and does not supply a government policy.
- YES · G states this conditional value.
- 1. Explain why personal effort needs practical support.
- 2. Restate the purpose of learning and propose a repeatable cycle.
- 3. Warn against judging success only in the short term.
- 4. State the overall position and limit what lifelong learning means.
- 5. Distinguish repeated experience from deliberate development.
- 6. Explain why one standard plan may fail different workers.
- 7. Show that valuable learning can happen without certificates.
2: Certificates are not a complete measure of growth.
- A. A small business may struggle to cover every employee’s duties while training takes place.
- B. Some jobs require a recognised qualification before a person is allowed to perform them.
- C. Public parks need more benches.
Đáp án & giải thích
1 A; 2 B. C không liên quan nghề nghiệp/đào tạo. Hồi đáp 1: Although a small business may have limited cover, it can schedule short practice sessions rather than removing support entirely. Hồi đáp 2: A recognised qualification may be essential for some roles, but the number of certificates does not show every practical skill a worker has gained.
One skill I want to develop is explaining responsibilities clearly. In our next project, I will prepare a short plan showing who is responsible for each stage. I will ask a partner to check whether the instructions are easy to follow. After the first meeting, I will invite feedback and revise any unclear points. I do not expect one plan to solve every problem. However, I can judge my progress by checking whether group members need fewer reminders and whether they can explain their own tasks accurately.
Mẫu nêu kết quả quan sát được, không hứa chắc chắn tăng năng suất. Dùng responsible for, develop a skill, feedback, judge progress theo cùng hệ ngôn ngữ.
Grammar notes · mở sau khi thử làm
Câu gốc I02-R3-S5: In my view, continuing to learn should be a normal part of a career, although the responsibility for making it possible should be shared.
V-ing làm chủ ngữ + should; although + nhượng bộ · Tác giả ủng hộ học tiếp và giới hạn việc ai phải chịu trách nhiệm.
Continuing to learn là cả cụm chủ ngữ. Should be shared là bị động: trách nhiệm nên được chia sẻ.
Thay thử: In my view, asking for feedback should be a normal part of a project, although the process should be respectful.
Câu gốc I02-R3-S8: Repetition may build speed, but it does not automatically develop judgement.
May + V: khả năng; but: đối lập có giới hạn · Lặp lại có thể tăng tốc độ nhưng không đương nhiên tăng phán đoán.
May không có nghĩa chắc chắn; it chỉ repetition. Không biến may thành always khi paraphrase.
Thay thử: Practice may improve confidence, but it does not automatically remove every error.
Câu gốc I02-R3-S22: A person on an unpredictable shift pattern may find it difficult to attend an evening course, while a worker with caring responsibilities may have little spare time at all.
Find it + adjective + to-V; while so sánh song song · Hai hoàn cảnh khác nhau đều có trở ngại thời gian.
It là tân ngữ hình thức trước difficult; to attend nêu việc khó. While ở đây nối hai tình huống, không chỉ “trong lúc”.
Thay thử: I find it difficult to join long meetings, while my colleague finds it hard to travel early.
Câu gốc I02-R3-S28: Giving workers some choice can make learning more relevant, provided that the choices remain connected to real needs.
Some choice không phải unlimited choice. More relevant là tính từ sau make learning; không dùng relevantly.
Thay thử: Giving learners feedback can make practice more useful, provided that the comments are specific.

02 · Grammar
|---|---|---|
| Kể việc đã kết thúc | Nila gained experience over three months. |
| Nêu thói quen hiện nay | She now checks names and dates. | Hiện tại đơn: she checks; không giữ checks sau does not. |
| Nêu kinh nghiệm còn liên quan hiện tại | I have learned to ask clearer questions. | Have/has + V3; không ghép với mốc đã kết thúc như last Monday. |
| Giải thích lý do | Because I wrote down the instructions, I could check them. | Because + chủ ngữ + động từ; because of + danh từ/V-ing. |
| Nhượng bộ có mục đích | Although the course is useful, I need time to practise. | Although + mệnh đề; không thêm but để nối cùng hai mệnh đề. |
| Đặt điều kiện | Staff can change shifts, provided that enough people are available. |
| Nêu mục đích | To gain experience, I joined a small project. | To + V nguyên mẫu; chủ thể thực hiện mục đích phải hợp với câu chính. |
Mẫu phân tích: một ý, ba góc thời gian
Đọc ba câu, rồi giải thích vì sao không thể chỉ thay động từ mà giữ nguyên mọi mốc thời gian.
- I worked with a mentor last year.
- I work with a mentor every Friday.
- I have worked with several mentors during my career.
Đáp án & giải thích
1 kể giai đoạn last year đã kết thúc. “I have worked with a mentor last year” sai trong cách dùng chuẩn được luyện ở đây: dùng worked với last year, hoặc bỏ mốc đã kết thúc để nói kinh nghiệm.
- Last month, our group ___ (meet) a difficult deadline.
- My mentor usually ___ (ask) me to explain my choices.
- I ___ (learn) two new skills since I joined this team.
- Although the new employee ___ (have) little experience, she asks useful questions.
- The manager did not ___ (give) us extra work yesterday.
- We can change the plan, provided that everyone ___ (understand) their responsibility.
Đáp án & giải thích
- met · last month đã kết thúc; meet là bất quy tắc.
- asks · usually + thói quen; chủ ngữ số ít.
- have learned / have learnt · since + mốc bắt đầu kéo tới hiện tại; cả learned và learnt chấp nhận.
- has · mô tả tình trạng hiện nay; không “have” với she.
- give · did not + nguyên mẫu.
- She gained many experience in customer service.
- Because of she wanted to learn, she asked for feedback.
- Although the deadline was close, but we checked the details.
- This workshop helps me developing a skill.
- He is responsible to planning the project.
- The manager asked us to meet to the deadline.
- Learning new skills make work more interesting.
- I have completed the course last Friday.
Đáp án & giải thích
- She gained a lot of experience in customer service. Experience chung không đếm được. Many experiences chỉ nhiều trải nghiệm/sự kiện riêng.
- Because she wanted to learn, … hoặc Because of her wish to learn, … . Sau because là mệnh đề; sau because of là cụm danh từ.
- Although the deadline was close, we checked the details. Bỏ but.
- … helps me develop / to develop a skill. Không help me developing.
- … responsible for planning … . Giới từ for + V-ing.
- … asked us to meet the deadline. Bỏ to vì meet nhận tân ngữ trực tiếp. Meet the deadline là cụm đang luyện; make the deadline cũng có thể có nghĩa hoàn thành kịp hạn.
- Learning new skills makes … . Cả cụm V-ing là chủ ngữ số ít.
- I completed the course last Friday.
Because, although hay provided that?
- I chose the morning shift ___ it fitted my travel plans.
- ___ the course was demanding, I found the practical tasks useful.
- You can work from home tomorrow, ___ you can attend the team call.
- ___ I had met the deadline, I still wanted feedback on the quality.
- The new recruit gained confidence ___ her mentor gave specific advice.
Đáp án & giải thích
1 because (lý do); 2 Although (dù khó vẫn hữu ích); 3 provided that (điều kiện); 4 Although (đúng hạn nhưng còn muốn cải thiện chất lượng); 5 because (lý do). “Because the course was demanding, I found it useful” là một ý khác: chính độ khó làm nó hữu ích.
Language Bank
|---|---|---|---|
| gain experience in [lĩnh vực / V-ing] | tích lũy kinh nghiệm thực hành | I gained experience in organising events. | Sai: gain an experience in organise → experience không đếm được; organising sau in. |
| develop [a skill / my communication skills] | xây năng lực cụ thể | The project helped me develop my communication skills. |
| meet [a/the deadline] | hoàn thành đúng hạn | We met the deadline, although we had to revise the plan. | Sai: meet to the deadline → meet nhận tân ngữ trực tiếp. |
| be responsible for [N / V-ing] | nêu phần việc | I was responsible for checking the dates. | Sai: responsible for check → checking. |
| receive / ask for [feedback] | xin và nhận góp ý | I asked for feedback on my first draft. | Sai: many feedbacks → some feedback; một góp ý cụ thể = a piece of feedback. |
| set [priorities / a realistic goal] | sắp xếp điều quan trọng | We set priorities before accepting more work. | Sai: set a priorities → priorities số nhiều hoặc a priority. |
| maintain [a reasonable work-life balance] | giữ cân bằng có thể duy trì | Flexible hours may help people maintain a reasonable work-life balance. | Không thay may help thành always guarantee: làm ý mạnh hơn. |
| I gained experience in [N / V-ing] when [mệnh đề quá khứ]. | kể một kinh nghiệm cụ thể | I gained experience in planning when I led a small project. | Sai: when lead a project → when I led a project. |
| One reason for [cụm danh từ] is that [mệnh đề]. | giải thích lựa chọn/lập trường | One reason for paid training is that employees need time to practise. | Sai: one reason for workers need time → one reason for paid training … . |
| Although [mệnh đề], [mệnh đề]. | thừa nhận giới hạn rồi giữ lập trường | Although courses can help, practice is also necessary. | Sai: Although courses can help, but … → bỏ but. |
| [S] can [V], provided that [mệnh đề]. | cho phép/đề xuất có điều kiện | Staff can choose a course, provided that it meets a real need. | Ô sau can là nguyên mẫu; sau provided that cần chủ ngữ + động từ. |
| This would allow [người] to [V]. | giải thích lợi ích của đề xuất | This would allow workers to develop a useful skill. | Sai: allow workers develop → allow workers to develop. |
- I gained experience in [organising events / organised events] when I [joined / join] the club last year.
- One reason for [flexible hours / employees choose hours] is that parents may need to collect children.
- The mentor helped me [to explain / explaining] a decision.
- The new employee is responsible for [checking / check] customer details.
- Although [the course was useful / a useful course], I needed more practice.
Đáp án & giải thích
1 organising events; joined. 2 flexible hours là cụm danh từ. 3 to explain (hoặc explain nếu viết lại ô). 4 checking. 5 the course was useful là mệnh đề. Thay mới đúng: I gained experience in managing time when I prepared a school event last year.
- I am responsible for checking orders.
- One reason for having a mentor is that new staff need specific feedback.
- Although training can be expensive, short practice sessions may still be possible.
- Staff can change their hours, provided that they update the shared calendar.
I want to develop my presentation skills. A colleague could give me feedback on a short practice talk. Although I have limited free time, I can practise for ten minutes twice a week. This would allow me to improve gradually without giving up other responsibilities. I would judge my progress by checking whether listeners can identify my main point.

- What is the main aim of the programme?
- When is the main weekly meeting?
- How are participants matched with mentors?

Bài A · Career Steps introduction
Mara, centre coordinator: Hello, everyone, and welcome to the Oakbridge Work and Learning Centre. I'm Mara, the programme coordinator. This is an introduction for people joining our six-week Career Steps programme. Some of you are looking for your first job; others want to change the kind of work you do. Our aim is to help you make a practical plan and test it. We cannot promise anyone a job, and we do not recruit staff for particular companies.
Let me explain the weekly timetable first. When we advertised the programme, we planned to meet on Tuesday evenings. The building is now being repaired on Tuesdays, so our main meeting will be on Thursday instead. It starts at six thirty and finishes at eight. There is also an optional online question session at lunchtime on Mondays. That is useful if you miss something, but it does not replace the Thursday meeting.
In your first week, you will have a short conversation with a mentor. A mentor is an experienced volunteer who helps you think about your goals. Before that conversation, please prepare two examples of things you have done well. These could come from a paid job, a college project, or something you organised at home. You do not need a polished application letter yet. And although you are welcome to bring a certificate, we will not ask for one.
You will work with the same mentor throughout the programme. We originally considered assigning mentors according to the jobs they had held. In practice, finding a time when both people are free is more important, so availability is how we make the match. Your mentor might work in a different field from the one you hope to enter. That can be helpful: they often ask useful questions that someone in your own field would take for granted.
During the second and third weeks, you will gain experience through a small team project. One group will plan a careers noticeboard for the local library; another will prepare a guide for new volunteers. You may expect us to reward the team that finishes first. However, we are more interested in how clearly you divide responsibilities and explain decisions to one another. Meeting a deadline matters, of course, but speed alone will not show us what you have learned.
Now, a word about the quiet workroom. You can use its computers after a session, but please reserve a place at the reception desk. We used to accept reservations by email, which caused confusion when messages arrived late. The online booking page you may have seen is for meeting rooms, not the quiet workroom. Reception closes at eight fifteen, so book before then if you need a place the next day.
We also want the programme to support a reasonable work-life balance. You should allow about two hours a week for activities outside our meetings. A few people enjoy doing much more, but extra hours are not a requirement. If your caring responsibilities or work shifts change, speak to us. You can reduce the size of your project rather than give it up completely.
At the end, you will receive feedback on a short portfolio. Please include one piece of work and a note explaining how you changed it after receiving advice. We will not rank participants against one another. A useful portfolio shows your progress and the next skill you want to develop. Before you leave today, take a timetable from the table by the door and check that you can attend next Thursday. Thank you.
Bài B · A Different Kind of Experience
Leon, workshop organiser: Welcome back to the Oakbridge centre. I'm Leon, and I organise our Saturday workshops. Next month's session is called A Different Kind of Experience. It is designed mainly for people returning to paid work after a break. Students are welcome too, but the examples will focus on explaining skills gained outside a workplace.
The session was going to begin with a presentation by a local employer. We have changed the order, so you will first work in pairs to describe a recent responsibility. This might be organising a community event or managing a household budget. The employer will join us after the break.
Please bring a brief description of one activity you would like to discuss. A paragraph is enough. You do not need to bring your full employment history, and we will provide laptops if an activity needs one. We want to spend our time developing examples rather than checking documents.
Finally, the workshop finishes at twelve thirty. The café will remain open, but the individual advice sessions advertised on the old poster have been cancelled. If you want personal feedback after the workshop, book a telephone appointment for the following week. The booking form is on the reception table. There is no need to decide today; you can also call the centre on Monday.

Đáp án & giải thích
- B · “make a practical plan and test it”. A bị bác bằng “do not recruit”; C trái “cannot promise anyone a job”.
- A · “two examples of things you have done well”.
- B · “availability is how we make the match”.
- C · “divide responsibilities and explain decisions”.
- A · Reception desk. Email là cách cũ gây nhầm; online page chỉ dành meeting rooms.
- B · “about two hours a week”. More không bắt buộc; không so số giờ giữa các học viên.
- C · One piece + note explaining change after advice.

- A. are returning to paid work after a break.
- B. have just started their first college course.

How can participants receive individual feedback after the workshop?
- A. By booking a telephone appointment for the following week
- B. By waiting in the café at twelve thirty
- C. By attending the advice session on the old poster
Đáp án & giải thích
- A · Main audience is returners; students welcome does not make them the main audience.
- C · Changed order: paired activity first; employer after break. B chỉ poster cũ, không phải hoạt động đầu.
- B · “A paragraph is enough” describing one activity.
- A · Telephone appointment next week. Café open không phải tư vấn; sessions on old poster đã cancelled.
Nghe lại: sửa đáp án bằng chứng
Chọn hai câu bạn sai hoặc chưa chắc. Ghi 4 phần: đáp án ban đầu → tín hiệu nghe được → đáp án sửa → vì sao phương án nhiễu không còn đúng.
Mẫu cấu trúc: I first chose Tuesday. I then heard “so … Thursday instead”. Tuesday was the original plan, so I changed my answer to C.
Đáp án & giải thích
Ví dụ câu A6: I first chose email because I heard that word. The speaker said “used to accept reservations by email”, which describes an old system. The current instruction is “reserve a place at the reception desk”, so the answer is A.
(1) “We are more interested in how clearly you divide responsibilities.” (2) “You can reduce the size of your project rather than give it up completely.”
- Interested in + [N / V-ing / to-V]? Chọn mọi dạng phù hợp theo cấu trúc.
- Rather than ở câu 2 nối hai hành động nào?
- Paraphrase “extra hours are not a requirement” mà không biến thành “extra hours are forbidden”.
Đáp án & giải thích
1 Interested in + danh từ hoặc V-ing; câu gốc dùng một mệnh đề danh từ how clearly … như tân ngữ của in. Không dùng interested to working. 2 reduce the size và give it up: hai lựa chọn hành động. 3 You do not have to spend extra hours. Không viết You must not spend extra hours vì đó là cấm.
Câu mới: I am interested in learning how to divide responsibilities. I can practise one short section rather than abandon the whole task.
04 · Writing Task 2
Ví dụ giả định có thể bắt đầu bằng “For example, a small business could…”
- New employees need to gain experience. Need to + nguyên mẫu; experience không đếm được.
- A mentor can help them develop communication skills. Can + help; help them develop/to develop.
- I am responsible for checking the details. Responsible for + V-ing.
- We met the deadline for the project. “Completed the project on time” cũng đúng.
- Although the course is useful, I need time to practise. Không thêm but.
- One reason for paid training is that employees need time to try new skills. Sau for là cụm danh từ; sau that là mệnh đề.
Bậc 1B · đổi mảnh, giữ đúng loại ô
Viết lại theo dữ kiện mới. Đọc câu mẫu: “The project helped me develop my planning skills.”
- Đổi the project → two short workshops.
- Đổi “my planning skills” thành kỹ năng giao tiếp của cô ấy và đổi me phù hợp.
- Viết lại “I gained experience in planning events” bằng “checking customer information”.
- Viết câu điều kiện: nhân viên có thể chọn giờ, với điều kiện nhóm vẫn đáp ứng nhu cầu khách hàng.
Đáp án & giải thích
- The two short workshops helped me develop my planning skills.
- The project helped her develop her communication skills. Đại từ tân ngữ her và sở hữu her cùng chỉ một người.
- This programme helps me develop my planning skills. Hiện tại, chủ ngữ số ít → helps.
- I gained experience in checking customer information. In + V-ing; information không đếm được.
- Staff can choose their hours, provided that the team still meets customers’ needs. Có thể dùng as long as thay provided that đúng ý.
Bậc 2 · nối ý có quan hệ rõ
Nối hoặc liên kết mỗi cặp bằng because, although, this hoặc một cách phù hợp. Không bắt buộc ghép thành câu quá dài.
- Employers benefit from skilled staff. Employers should provide some practice time.
- Online courses are easy to offer. Staff may not have time to use them.
- A mentor gives specific feedback. The feedback helps a new worker improve.
- A workshop is short. It may still be useful if it addresses a real need.
- Workers have different responsibilities outside work. One fixed evening class may not suit everyone.
Đáp án & giải thích
- Employers should provide some practice time because they benefit from skilled staff. Đặt kết luận và lý do theo ý muốn nhấn.
- Although online courses are easy to offer, staff may not have time to use them.
- A mentor gives specific feedback. This helps a new worker improve. This quy chiếu việc nhận góp ý cụ thể.
- Although a workshop is short, it may still be useful if it addresses a real need.
- Workers have different responsibilities outside work, so one fixed evening class may not suit everyone. May giữ mức độ thận trọng.
“Training is good. Training is useful. Because workers learn. Moreover employers benefit. Although training costs money but it is good.”
Đáp án & giải thích
Training can help workers develop skills that they use in their jobs. Employers benefit when staff can complete tasks more effectively. Although training costs money, short sessions focused on real needs may be worthwhile.
Bản sửa thay “good/useful” chung chung bằng chức năng; sửa fragment “Because workers learn”; bỏ but thừa; nối lợi ích với lý do. Không cần moreover trong từng câu.
Bậc 3A · xây một đoạn có trục ý
Sắp xếp A–E thành đoạn hợp lý và loại một câu lạc ý. Đoạn cần: ý chính → giải thích → ví dụ → liên hệ lại.
- A. For example, a new receptionist could practise explaining a complicated booking with a mentor before handling it alone.
- B. Short practice sessions during work can make training more useful.
- C. Many towns also need better bus shelters.
- D. This gives employees a chance to try a skill while advice is still available.
- E. The opportunity to receive immediate feedback can help them correct errors before those errors affect customers.
Đáp án & giải thích
Thứ tự hợp lý: B → D → A → E. C lạc ý về bến xe.
Viết 80–110 từ bảo vệ ý: mentoring can support new workers.
Khung tự chọn: A mentor can… / This matters because… / For example,… / However,…
Đáp án & giải thích
A mentor can help new workers turn general advice into useful action. This matters because a beginner may know that communication is important without knowing how to explain a difficult decision. For example, a new team leader could practise a short briefing with an experienced colleague and ask which instructions are unclear. The colleague could then suggest one specific change. However, mentoring is unlikely to help much if the mentor has no time to listen. A brief but regular meeting may be more useful than a long meeting that happens only once.
Đoạn bám mentoring, không nhảy sang lương hay công nghệ. Unlikely to và may tránh hứa chắc chắn. Ví dụ cụ thể cho thấy hoạt động dẫn tới lợi ích như thế nào.
Đề chính · Task 2 opinion
Some people believe that employers should provide regular opportunities for staff to learn new skills during paid working hours. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
- A. Learning is important in modern society.
- B. I largely agree that employers should allow paid time for relevant learning, although the scale of support should reflect the needs of the workplace.
- C. This essay will discuss transport and education.
- D. Every employee must attend a full-time degree course at the employer’s expense.
A chưa trả lời paid time; C lạc đề; D biến regular opportunities thành full-time degree bắt buộc và thêm mọi chi phí.
Mỗi lý do cần câu trả lời “vì sao?” và “ví dụ nào?”.
| Phần | Vai trò | Gợi ý để bạn tự phát triển |
|---|---|---|
| Mở bài | Nêu vấn đề + mức độ đồng ý | paid time; relevant learning; proportionate support |
| Thân 1 | Lợi ích liên quan trực tiếp công việc | practice while feedback is available; hypothetical new staff example |
| Thân 2 | Khả năng tiếp cận + giới hạn nguồn lực | caring/shift constraints; short planned sessions rather than unlimited courses |
| Kết | Khẳng định lại vị trí với giới hạn nhất quán | shared benefit and realistic support; no new argument |
Employers are sometimes expected to make regular learning part of the paid working day. I largely agree with this view because relevant training can improve the quality of work and make development more accessible. However, the support offered should be realistic for the organisation and connected to genuine needs.
One reason for providing paid learning time is that employees need opportunities to apply advice, not simply receive information. A short course may explain a new process, but workers often discover their difficulties only when they try it. For example, a new receptionist could practise explaining a complicated booking with an experienced colleague before dealing with a customer alone. Immediate feedback would help the employee identify unclear instructions and develop a more effective approach. The employer could also benefit from fewer avoidable misunderstandings. Learning within the working day therefore allows practice and support to remain connected to real tasks.
Paid time can also give more people a fair opportunity to develop. If all training takes place in the evening, workers with caring responsibilities or unpredictable shifts may struggle to attend. Their absence does not necessarily show a lack of motivation. At the same time, a small organisation may find it difficult to release several employees for long courses. A reasonable response would be to offer short, scheduled sessions or mentoring and to agree priorities with staff. Employers should not be expected to fund every personal interest, but they should normally support learning that they require for the job.
In conclusion, regular learning deserves a place within paid working hours when it addresses relevant needs. A planned and proportionate approach can support both employees and their organisation without treating professional development as an unlimited demand on either side.
| Phần mẫu | Điểm cần học | Không nên bắt chước máy móc |
|---|---|---|
| Mở bài | Largely agree + hai lý do + giới hạn support. |
| Thân 1 | Giải thích quá trình thông tin → thực hành → phản hồi; ví dụ receptionist dùng could.
“All companies must give unlimited free courses because it always makes every worker excellent. Researchers proved that productivity rises by 80 percent, so employers have no problems. Although training expensive but it is necessary.”
Đáp án & giải thích
Employers should provide time for learning that is relevant to employees’ roles. This can help staff practise new processes and receive useful feedback, although it does not guarantee improvement in every case. For example, a short mentoring session could help a new worker identify an unclear instruction. Training also has costs, so the amount of support should reflect the organisation’s resources.
Ví dụ: “Training is good” → “Paid practice time lets employees try a skill while feedback is available.” Lý do: giải thích cơ chế cụ thể.
Practical experience is more important than formal qualifications for a successful career. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Đáp án & giải thích
Practical experience and formal qualifications can both contribute to a successful career, but they serve different purposes. I do not agree that experience is always the more important of the two. Its value depends on the role, and it is often strongest when supported by relevant education.
Experience is valuable because it requires people to use their knowledge in situations that are not completely predictable. A person may understand the principles of teamwork without knowing how to handle a missed deadline or explain a difficult decision. By working with colleagues and receiving feedback, that person can develop more effective habits. For example, someone organising a community event may learn to set priorities when several tasks become urgent at once. These practical abilities can be difficult to demonstrate through a certificate alone.
However, experience is not a substitute for every kind of formal learning. Some roles involve specialised knowledge that a worker needs before attempting a task independently. A structured course can provide a foundation and make learners aware of problems they have not yet encountered. Qualifications can also give an employer useful information about what an applicant has studied, although they do not prove that the applicant will perform every task well. Dismissing them entirely would therefore be as unhelpful as ignoring experience.
In my view, the most effective approach is to connect the two. Learners should have chances to apply what they study, while experienced workers should be willing to examine gaps in their knowledge. A mentor can help them make this connection by discussing both the reason for a method and its practical use.
In conclusion, neither experience nor qualifications should automatically be treated as superior. A successful career is more likely to require an appropriate combination, with the balance changing according to the work involved.
Tự đối chiếu: “more important” đòi hỏi so sánh giá trị, không chỉ hai danh sách ưu điểm.
Câu hỏi: “What do you enjoy about your work or studies?” Đọc mẫu, đánh dấu trả lời trực tiếp, lý do và chi tiết cụ thể.
“I enjoy the practical side of my studies. We often work on small projects, so I can try an idea rather than only read about it. Last month, I helped organise a group presentation, which gave me some experience in planning.”
Đáp án & giải thích
Trực tiếp: “the practical side”. Lý do: có thể thử ý tưởng. Chi tiết: group presentation last month. Grammar: enjoy + danh từ/V-ing; so + kết quả; which bổ sung kết quả về trải nghiệm. Không cần mọi câu trả lời Part 1 dài ba câu; trả lời vừa đủ và tự nhiên.
Part 1 · có khung rồi bỏ khung
Trả lời câu 1–3 có gợi ý; câu 4–6 bỏ gợi ý. Dùng nội dung thật hoặc tình huống học tập tương đương.
- Do you work or study? Gợi ý: I’m currently… / One thing I’m responsible for is…
- What skill would you like to develop? Gợi ý: I’d like to improve… because…
- Do you prefer working alone or with others? Gợi ý: It depends on… / For tasks that…, I…
- How do you organise a busy day?
- Have you ever received useful advice about work or study?
- Is there anything you would like to change about your routine?
Đáp án & giải thích
1: I’m currently studying, and I also help with a small volunteer project. I’m responsible for checking the weekly schedule.
2: I’d like to improve my communication skills because I sometimes give too much detail before explaining the main point.
3: It depends on the task. I prefer working alone when I need to read carefully, but I like discussing a plan with other people.
4: I usually set priorities before I start. If two tasks have the same deadline, I check which one needs more time.
5: Yes. A teacher once suggested that I ask one specific question when I receive feedback. That makes the advice easier to use.
6: I’d like to leave a little more time between tasks. My plans are sometimes too tight, so one delay affects the rest of the day.
Ví dụ trước: “I like teamwork because teamwork is good and teamwork helps.” Sau: “I like teamwork because other people often notice a problem that I have missed. In our last project, a classmate helped me make the schedule more realistic.”
Part 2 · Describe a person who helped you develop a useful skill.
You should say:
- who the person is
- what skill they helped you develop
- how they helped you
and explain why their help was useful to you.
Lần có hướng dẫn: thử dùng bản ghi chú “Lin / event / unclear timetable / questions / three sections / feedback”.
I’d like to talk about my former classmate, Lin, who helped me become better at explaining a plan. We worked together on a small community event about a year ago. I was responsible for the timetable, but my first version was quite difficult for other people to follow.
Lin did not simply rewrite it for me. She asked me to explain what each person needed to know before the event. That question made me realise that I had included lots of background information but had not made the responsibilities clear. We divided the plan into three sections: what needed to happen, who would do it and when it had to be finished.
She then asked me to give a short briefing as if she were a new volunteer. Whenever an instruction was unclear, she told me exactly which part had confused her. I revised the plan and tried again. At first, I felt a little embarrassed, but her comments were specific and friendly, so I gradually became more confident.
Her help was useful because I learned a method that I could use in other situations. I still ask myself whether someone reading my plan can identify their own task. I have also learned to ask for feedback before a deadline becomes urgent. Although I am not always a clear communicator, I now have a practical way to improve, and that matters more to me than simply being told that I have done a good job.
Ngôn ngữ dùng lại: responsible for; develop a skill; specific feedback; before a deadline; although. Thì: worked/asked/revised kể sự kiện; I still ask mô tả cách làm hiện nay; I have learned nối kinh nghiệm với hiện tại.
- Do you still use the skill today?
- Would you like to help someone else learn that skill?
Đáp án & giải thích
1 Yes. I use it whenever I need to explain responsibilities in a group, although I still sometimes include too much detail. 2 I would, but I would start by asking what the person finds difficult. I would not assume that my own problem is the same as theirs.
Dùng quan điểm → lý do/cơ chế → ví dụ hoặc đối chiếu → giới hạn khi cần.
Question: “What makes a good workplace mentor?”
“A good mentor needs to listen before giving advice. Two new workers may have different problems, even if their job titles are the same, so one standard explanation may not help both of them. A useful mentor can also give specific feedback, such as pointing out where an instruction becomes unclear. Experience matters, but it is not enough if the person has no time or patience to support someone else.”
Đáp án & giải thích
Quan điểm: listen first. Giới hạn: experience không thay time/patience. May giúp tránh nói mọi mentor hoặc mọi worker đều giống nhau.
Part 3 · luyện có gợi ý rồi độc lập
Câu 1–2 dùng từ khóa nếu cần; câu 3–6 tự chuẩn bị ý. Thử 40–60 giây mỗi câu, rồi trả lời một câu hỏi “Why?” tiếp nối.
- Who should be responsible for helping people learn new skills? Gợi ý: shared responsibility / relevant training / initiative.
- Why might some people find it difficult to change careers? Gợi ý: time / income uncertainty / transferable skills.
- Is practical experience more useful than a qualification?
- How can employers support a reasonable work-life balance?
- Should all employees receive the same training?
- How might people’s learning needs change over a long career?
Đáp án & giải thích
1 · mẫu: I think the responsibility should be shared. Individuals need to identify their goals and practise, but employers should provide support when a skill is required for the job. Otherwise, people with little free time may be excluded. The exact arrangement would depend on the workplace, so short mentoring sessions may be more realistic than long courses in some cases.
2 · mẫu: Changing careers can involve uncertainty, especially if someone would need a lower starting salary or time for training. People may also underestimate the skills they already have. For example, someone who has organised events may have planning skills that are useful in another role. Advice can help them recognise those skills, although it cannot remove every financial or practical difficulty.
3 · mẫu: It depends on the work. Experience shows how someone handles real tasks, whereas a qualification can provide evidence of structured study. I would be cautious about treating either as a complete measure of ability. The strongest candidate may be someone who can explain both what they know and how they have used it.
4 · hướng phát triển: clear expectations about availability + realistic workload; flexible hours can help some roles; equipment/customer needs may limit options.
5 · hướng phát triển: common essential knowledge + individual needs; same job title does not imply identical skills; avoid assuming unlimited choice.
6 · hướng phát triển: early career: routines and feedback; later responsibilities: decision-making/mentoring; avoid claiming all older workers have the same weaknesses.
“Although the course was USEFUL, / I needed TIME / to PRACTISE.”
“One reason for paid TRAINING / is that workers need FEEDBACK / while they are LEARNING.”
Thử thách cuối · tình huống mới
Không xem mẫu. Part 1: What kind of task gives you confidence? Part 2: Describe a time you learned from feedback. Part 3: Can organisations expect too much learning from their staff?

Ví dụ: Last year, I gained experience in organising a small exhibition. I was responsible for checking the schedule, and we met the deadline. I now ask for feedback before sharing a final plan because another person may notice missing details. Although I enjoy planning, I need to leave enough time for other responsibilities. I can accept another project, provided that the workload is realistic.
